The F40fd F47fd & F50fd/se
Quote from kingd73 on July 17, 2023, 12:35 amI know, i know, I skipped over the F20 F30 & F31fd
well there is a reason for this. I'll explain. The 2 stand outs in the finepix line up are the F40&47fd.
The F40fd (&47) WERE almost twice as sensative than all the other F line up. NOWHERE is this mentioned in any reviews.
So basically if you set an f30 to iso 400 indoors without the flash it might pick a 1/20th s/s as an example. Now do the exact same thing with an F40/47fd and these models will choose 1/34 or 1/38 and give the same exposure. Now employ the Slow Sync flash with negative exp (-2/3 to -1/1/3) on the flash and you get great sharp photo's with evenly exposed pictures which sometimes look like no flash was used at all.
These models also have a newer Face Detection & intelligent Flash and... The sensor is a smidge larger @ 1/1.6" (8x6)mm . That's the biggest super CCD made in a camera this small. With only 8 & 9 mp between these essential twins.
NOW the F50fd... even though rated as one of the best 12 mp cameras' at the time.
These cameras' have issues ( that were almost all fixed later in the run )( serial #7DAxxxx and later )
- Flash exposure at telephoto was terrible (fixed).
- Image stabe is useless (not fixed)
- ISO sensativety was just like the earlier models before the 40/47 ( and they fixed this !! )
- Last but not least, close focusing was terrible at around 3 feet !! (they also fixed this)
Sometimes depending on conditions, the F50fd will take great pictures. I lowlight however. Say goodbye to the "extra" resolution to noise mush reduction.
Hope you guys like this info because it took me years to learn. Next would be the F30 & 31fd if anyone is curious on what i have to say 🙂

Quote from kingd73 on July 17, 2023, 4:09 pmWell, i'm not an engineer but, I think Fujifilm just got better as time went on . I say this because, The F10 is the least sensative. The F30 improved on this and the F40fd i think Fujifilm hit the mark ISO wise. This is only noticeable in non-flash photo's. That's probably why it took me so long to realize this. When the F50fd came out. It went right back to the way the f10/30 camera's were. Then they fixed it, they even updated the noise processing between an early f50 and a later one. My problem is, I LOVE the body and feel of the f50fd/se but the F40 is better in most situations.
I included 2 pictures of the f30 & f40 takin the same shot. No flash, ISO 400 Look how the s/s is faster on the F40fd and the exposure is the same ( even though it might not look like it in these pictures)
