So I finally bought a K3-III

Nice!

Well so, I have bought a Pentax 150-450mm to pair it with it.

It's a 2nd hand unit, it was a good deal. It has marks of use on the body and so on. But the seller was so nice that he even gave me spare parts (a new lens hood, a new lens cap, a new lens tripod collar).

Now I need to wait a month to use them both 🙂

Oh I have almost forgot! I have also ordered the Battery Grip for it!

It's expensive, but I was able to order it fro Amazon UK Cheaper than in Spain, I have got a cupon code (discount), so well it was expensive and I'd have loved to buy a clone grip like Meike or so, but there are none for the K3-III that I know.

Excellent! That's gonna be a killer setup for you! Weathersealed, too. 🙂 A couple good deals popped up here in the USA and I almost bit... but I need to recover from the camera body purchase first. I am dragging my feet selling my K-3 and some lenses. The 150-450mm would be ideal for a zoomer like me but for the size and weight. I love that it had the DC motor, so no worries about SDM failure like the DA* 300, which is the other lens I've been considering.

Wow sounds like you're all set now! The battery grip is such a nice accessory especially with a large lens, and that 150-450 is one large lens! Congrats 🙂

Yes basically to everything xD

So I have been through many many many ideas when my Sigma 100-300mm failed 3 years ago, and at the end of the journey I have ended up owing too many lenses for the same function (that I'm trying to sell now).

And luckily I was able to get the control of some stock actions I have had for the last 10 years and sell them. Otherwise I'd have not been able to buy anything to be honest.

The grip I feel it necessary. I have it on my K3-II and the other day birding and testing the 150-450mm lens I bought I took my camera with no grip and it was unconfortable. It's a shamre that there are no 3rd party company grips anymore but I think it's a nice touch. Also in order to have more battery life.

The 300mm I have had it in mind, but for me I need zooms usually. So this is why I rather went for the Big lens instead and because owing now two copies of the Sigma 100-300mm f4 I had the 300mm reach covered.

So what went wrong in my head? I bought a second Sigma 100-300mm f4 and later on a Sigma 120-400mm f4.5-5.6. The latest looks like new, and has 2 stabilization modes in body which seems pretty nice. But misses the focus limiter so lacks a bit of AF speed to my likes. Other than this i'd not have bought the 150-450mm.

So now I need to find how to sell those without loosing many money xD

Yeah the battery grip is a must with a big lens. They are so nice for other reasons, too. I liked that the K-3 battery grip let you use AA batteries. I never used it but I thought that was an awesome feature. Plus you can change the battery in bad environmental conditions without exposing your camera body to the elements. Oh and the storage space for SD card is neat. And shooting portrait orientation is a breeze. Just a lot to love about them.

I didn't even know about those Sigma lens options for Pentax. That's pretty neat, and something I should consider (although I really should stick with weathersealed lenses since I make use of that so often). Like I said the DA* 300 is tempting for me because of size, weight, and price. But I agree with you, I need that zoom. I take as many photos at the bottom end as the far end any time I have my 55-300 on. If only the 150-450 was half the weight, size, and price! 🤣 It seems like it would be quite awkward to lug around on hikes. Pentax Bazooka

I don't remember, have you used the 55-300 PLM? Is the aperture just too slow at the long end for what you do? It is such a fast focusing lens, and light and compact too. But for birding I wish it let in more light.

Yeah battery grips are great.

I have had the 55-300mm AL the first version, that was working okay but I wanted a faster AF and better definition. I have never tried the new PLM version of it.

From the two Sigmas I'd say if you can have a 100-300mm f4 is a no brainer. Those are great great lenses, actually my main lens was one of those.

You can see the reviews here: https://www.pentaxforums.com/userreviews/sigma-apo-100-300mm-f4-ex-dg.html

And some of my photos too,

And the 120-400mm I haven't used it for motorsport but seems that (maybe due to the range) the AF is a bit slower-ish than the 100-300mm. Yet it has 2 stabilization modes in the lens, that might be great.

https://www.pentaxforums.com/userreviews/sigma-120-400mm-f4-5-5-6-dg-apo-os-hsm.html

Just in case it helps 🙂

But if you are thinking on the DA* 300mm f4 it might be for a reason 🙂
