Been a little while since I've taken photos. I always keep my bag ready to go so when I had a hard time sleeping last night I decided to drive out to the mountains and take a few shots. It's starting to get a bit crispy out!

Last couple shots, unfortunately the good weather seems to be gone for good. It's all rainy, windy, cold and foggy since days.

The K-5 finally arrived and I took it out this afternoon. Here are the results:

I like the mid-iso, underexposed images, it kind of gives a painterly look to the images. But again I ran into issues with dynamic range with this sensor, it's the only time I've ever struggled with it. Anyone know any good tips? Am I just going to have to bring a tripod and do bracketing? I had hoped for this to become a Hiking camera, but the DR is giving me pause about assigning it that role.

I also have a few shots with the K-1 from Sunday:

Agreed, I like the underexposed painterly look in your photos.

I had a K-5 II which I liked a lot. According to DxoMark, at ISO 400 you are probably loosing roughly 1.5 stops of dynamic range vs base ISO. I guess it's a choice between low-light and grain vs higher dynamic range? In any case the shots look great.

Thanks very much! Yeah, I was laying in bed last night and it occurred to me that the ISO is probably my why I'm struggling so much. So I think you're right, and Photos-to-photos only lists the K5ii S, but it also looses about 2 stops from 100 to 400. which only means I working with 8 stops, which explains the struggle. It's a little disappointing because I do really like the noise the sensor produces. I'll probably give it another try and let myself use the base ISO lol
