My pentax k3 arrived last friday ! ! ! Never bying a camera again (i hope) I missed shooting with reliable autofocus, so many more keeper pics ! The kit lens isnt isn't as sharp as I hoped, especially at the edges. Sometimes that looks nice though.

Nice!

Which settings are you using?

What I use for Motorsports (maybe it helps you out) is the following:

  • on the AF menu:
  • - Seg.Punto AF con AFC (I always use AFC), its translation should be "
AF point tracking in AFC": Type 3
    - AF Sensibitily AFC: Number 5
    - Subject recognition ON
    - And I also use Center Point or Spot Small.

    * I'm talking about Menu 1 AF, Visor AF (first option on top) and then the submenus it has
    * Please beware I have the camera in Spanish so I tried to translate the menus in English but the names might be different.

For regular photography I have Spot AF, centre weighted metering (i think thats the name? second largest mode), AFS, single shot drive mode. I use AFS in case I want to focus on something off centre quickly, without moving the point.

For the bird pictures I made a profile: 9 AF points in the middle, centre weighted metering, AFC, fastest drive mode, Tv with 1/1600 shutter.

The people shots I was doing from the hip, 9 AF points, centre weighted metering, AFC, single frame, Av at f5.6~8 for a wider DoF.

I've been on and off with photography for a while so I'm definitely experimenting with those. I'll see if I can try your settings, but I don't think k3 has subject recognition, are you using a K3 iii?

These are great! I really love the mirror and mural shots. GR seems perfect for street photography. I'd like to pick one up someday. I have been searching for a camera that I can always bring with me. GR may fit the bill, or a Q. The GX7 I have almost fits the bill but it's pretty thick once you account for the EVF and lens protrusions, even with the 20mm f/1.7 on it.

It was a warm, sunny day yesterday. Took a walk with the family and brought my K-3iii, 50-135, and 50mm classic. Today it is cold, windy, and raining all day so I am glad I took advantage of the nice weather while it lasted!

The next two are the same thing but close up with 50-135 and Raynox 150

Last two are 50mm classic. The flower is from the other day, but the spider web my wife found for me yesterday. She has such a great eye for photography.
