Hello again!

I'm still alive 😛

Great report and photos! That sounds like a once in a life time experience. I'm glad you were able to make it work despite the sickness, travel and sleeping arrangements. What a gift to get to experience all that in person.

Happy snappin' 🙂

Thank you James,

It has been a once in a lifetime event and experience, no doubt about it.

So I just posted a theme on Pentaxforums, and that guy was so generous to share his images from 1974 !!!!

Please check them out, done with a Spotmatic 1000 and a 105mm lens,

I was shocked, this is an amazing gift

That's incredible to see next to your images, 50 years later. And some very nice shots from them as well.

Exactly, and such images. Maybe the guy wasn't so pleased with them at the time, but 50 years later you have to give those images credit. Not only for being 50 years old, but also for what he captured and specially for keeping them.

Wow, what an epic journey you've been on and to have someone share those photos from 50 years ago is just the cherry on top. Truly special trip, accomplishment, and kinship! After looking at all your photos and his, I think there's must be something about that event that inspires photographers to do their best. All the photos just have the "it" factor! Bravo and congrats, I'm really happy for you!

I would say endurance provides lots of opportunities other kinds of racing don't.

Here it rained for like 40 minutes maybe, if you were at the spot at that time, you had perfectly great rainy pictures alongside other kinds. We weren't. When we arrived there the sun was going down, so we were lucky. Because we were chasing the rain.

But yes, you are right, you do your own luck and people here (most likely they work on teams of 2-3-4 photographers like for example MCH that are great, are 3 guys) pushes to the limit.

YES those 1974 images are pure gold. It is so fantastic.

It has been a journey, thank you very much, glad you liked them.

Most likely I'm thinking about this event like Monaco, where the place brings you an atmosphere to the images. And being a 24h race, it might bring even more character to it. Maybe it's that.

I've been thinking a lot about this thread over the past several days. I've been thinking about my photography goals and how will I know when I've achieved those goals; and I don't know that I really have a good answer to that question. I can't really even define for myself a photography goal and I think that's something I want to create for myself.

P.S.

@red5isalive

I had a video recommended to me by youtube about the Nascar Camaro that competed in Le Mans, and I thought that was pretty neat. Do you have any more photos of that Camaro?

Well that's a personal way of thinking a most likely you don't need to look after any goals maybe 🙂

Yes that NASCAR car was weird but also spiced the game a little bit.

I do, I do have quite a few.

Those are the ones I have upload to Flickr, so I guess the good ones:

I must say I was impressed those guys ended up the race, and that they almost had no issues at all (at the end of the race they have had a long stop). Also they raced their own category (experimental) and that might bring less regulations maybe or less restrictive ones but hey, they were very quick, faster than the regular GT3 cars, and that added to the fact that they had no big reliability issues mades it a superb debut in one of the tuffer races out there.

Great shots! I don't know much about racing or cars, but it was an interesting video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNIEgqZBScw). Do you feel like it caused a big stir in the community, or was it more of a novelty?

Thanks for the link 🙂

I think it's mixed feelings. You know here in Europe NASCAR is not that popular. Or not popular at all. It's seen as more a sport that is followed by (how do I say it?) not very educated people from states that are pro-ultra right wing usually?

Yet I like Nascar, I have seen some racing (i definitelly am more attracted to Indycar), and at Le Mans it was a mix of feeling that this don't belong here, but also a feeling of happiness to reach out Nascar, and also curiosity on how would the car handle the race, how would it last, how would it lap, would it be fast? would it have issues at traffic? Etc....

Also having 2009 Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button racing the car as one of the 3 drivers I think it was very smart because it made Europeans feel that the project isn't that "american" only, and he is a master as a driver, he knows how to keep the car safe, and is quick.

So overall I'd say it was joy and enthusiasm mixed with not being sure if that fits.
I know some USA photographer out there that covers Le Mans was super excited about it, but I guess that comes from having a part of it's culture included here (he has not shooten any Nascar thought so I doubt about his love for it).

It is a tricky topic and a tricky question because you can (I can and I hope I have not) break feelings.
