Monaco Grand Prix 2019
Quote from Daniel Gonzalez on April 1, 2021, 9:06 pmHi guys, new here!
Came from the Youtube Channel. So I shoot Motorsport. Well, not as much lately due to Covid and due to the fact that the Season is starting now.
I'm based in Barcelona in Europe and I usually cover events here at the track that is close home as Media or Trackside Photographer since 2014. But sometimes I am lucky enough to go abroard and shoot something else. In this case I was lucky enough to be able to go to Montecarlo for the Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2019 as a Formula 1 Accredited Photographer (or Media). But many things happened that year. One of which is I was an idiot. Well maybe still am. Because I decided to store all my 2019 images in one hard drive. Just one. So what happened next will surprise you...... wait, no it won't. It broke. So I lost my images of an entire year. And what a year! It was a phenomenal year speaking about photography.
So at the end I was able to recover some image from that event (one even made it to the Pentaxians Yearbook 2019 !! ) and the other day was trying new solutions while I got my Canon eos M back from a friend that borrowed from me way too long. So i downloaded that program and I tested it on a card I used recently and yes it recovers files but nothing exceptional. And I thought "lets give a go on the eos M SD card, see what we get", well.... what we got was more than 700 images about the Monaco Grand Prix 2019 I took with my second camera which is a Pentax K3 Silver Edition paired with the Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 and I was so incredibly happy....... because I think I did there that weekend one of my best images so far, at least motorsports speaking. And I really was down thinking I've lost it forever.
Then I just picked some images and passed them by Lightroom and so here are some from that event I forgot I ever took them and an image i really like (well is not i dislike the others, of course i don't xD but you get it)

On a side note I know maybe this last one has a bit too harsh color tones, and the previous two I usually do not edit my images like that but you know, I was playing a bit and found that edit and found I like it so.... why not?
Oh! And why do I love the purple colorful image? Well because its a panning that shows speed, where the car has a little bit of a wheel in the air, it has a colorful contrasty background and it was taken at a speed of 1/50th of a second and oh boy I tell you there in that spot I found where nobody else was going it was really hard to get it. Or at least with this combo of camera + lens + human being which is me.
Oh and one more fact I will whisper to you: because nobody else got that image because nobody else ever thought of taking an image from there. And yeah being "innovative" in a way, also made me happy. And the other two I like that you see the City of Montecarlo on the background, you can see some details like the fence at one side (left side) and the cars ready to brake (brake marks are on the right side saying 200 meters, 150 meters....) after passing at full speed in the tunnel and above us. Technically speaking this is way less hard to get as those are taken at 1/5000th of a second which is something I rarely do (i0m quite allergic to speeds above 1/1000th or beyond, to be honest) but cars were going flat out here and I was just guessing where they are so I needed to shot at a high speed and at burst mode in the way that when I hear it coming towards me I'd start shooting. That was the difficult part of those two images.
Well I hope you like them and excuse me for a such a long post, I promise I usually don't write as much 🙂

Anticipating that we’ll hopefully be back to normal soon with the increase of vaccines available. Hope you’ll be able to continue capturing these amazing compositions normally again.

Thank you very much 🙂
Yes exactly technique and practice are key.On the slow shutter one I've been in that spot the previous year for some other races and I thought "this is a very nice place, should go there again", so gave it a try. Of course I just have got waaaay many blurried images and a few good ones. But the good ones, look good 🙂
Yes we are in a weird situation and hopefully sooner or later we'll go back to normal.
Btw just give it a try, you can see if you like it. You can start with some shutter speed you feel comfortable with and once you like what you see you can slowly start to go down on the speed and keep practicing. That is what I usually do 🙂

Yes! That was the best part as I got to recover around 10 last year and I was really sad not having the purple car's image back. I mean I usually upload all my images at Flickr but with my water marks and I was sad about that.So if you wanna/need to check the program I used is called PhotoRec. It might be helpful for someone else.

BR,Awesome pics, and so cool that you were able to recover them from that card! I had something like that happen once. Not very fun thinking you lost all your pics...
Thanks!
Yes! That was the best part as I got to recover around 10 last year and I was really sad not having the purple car's image back. I mean I usually upload all my images at Flickr but with my water marks and I was sad about that.
So if you wanna/need to check the program I used is called PhotoRec. It might be helpful for someone else.

So I just download some of my images in Flickr with watermarks and decided to cut off the watermark part and re-edit the images this style and so some came in a way I like so, just sharing some here hoping you also like them47977226161_bfcd41f469_o-4 by Daniel Gonzalez Aguilera, en Flickr
This was Kimi Raikkonen celebrating his 300th Grand Prix mark in 2019, I know photo is not 100% straight, but we were a cloud of photographers (pre-covid situation) with a bunch of video camera guys around and everyone was pushing and moving so....... it wasn't easy.

Race winner Lewis Hamilton with one wheel in the air in Fairmont, the most famous and slowest corner of the track, wearing a Niki Lauda tribute helmet as the 3 times world champion passed away that weekend, sadly
