Creating a Stock Photography Page on Unsplash
Quote from Beau Carpenter on August 20, 2022, 2:13 pmHi all! Wanted to summarize and share my experience so far on Unsplash
Unsplash is a free stock photography site where you can download images for graphic design, social media, blogs, etc. It's not quite like Flickr or other sharing sites since by uploading images you are giving permission for people to use them for graphic design, video, social posts, wallpapers, etc.
I contributed my first image in December 2020 and contributed off and on since then. In the last month or so I've gotten back to adding and tagging images.
My main motivations for contributing are:
- Giving back since I've benefited a lot from using other's stock images.
- The satisfaction of going through my photo library and curating a collection of images
- The satisfaction of seeing that others have downloaded and used my photos
It seems that there could be some side benefits (none of which I've experienced 🤣) from the site in form of:
- Exposure
- Donations
- Getting Hired
Even people whose work has done extremely well on the platform are doubtful about the significant monetary benefit. See https://scottwebb.me/how-to-make-money-on-unsplash/
As far as reach, here’s how my photos have been seen and used:
Not sure of any real takeaways, just an experiment at this point!
