Beercan?! Beercan. (The Classic Minolta 70-210 F4 "Beercan")
Quote from North Wolf Photography on February 6, 2023, 10:05 pmLets take a moment to reflect on one of the most rock-solid classic 80's AF Film lenses of all time: The Minolta 70-210 F4 lovingly dubbed the "Beercan Lens"
How many lenses out there have a nickname? Not very many, but with the Minolta 70-210 F4 I guess it just stuck with the Minolta/Sony A mount Fanbase.
For an almost 40 year old lens this thing does a rock solid job on a Digital body. The glass is clear enough that even without a Digital Coating applied it has very little Chromatic Abberation and distortion. It can still go toe to toe with modern 70-200 F4 lenses and most people would not be able to tell the difference between the two (other then the Minolta Beercan might be slightly better :P)
This lens is the very reason I started collecting Sony A mount digital bodies; a mount that's now fully dead but it had a heck of a run. Here's some of my favorite shots I've taken with it.
